Chez Manu – French-Patagonian Cuisine in Ushuaia

Chez Manu: French and Patagonian flavours in Ushuaia

At Chez Manu, diners are invited on a culinary journey combining French cooking traditions with the natural setting and produce of Tierra del Fuego. The original restaurant description emphasises a meeting between professional culinary expertise and artisanal suppliers of products from both the sea and the land.

The story behind Chez Manu

According to the restaurant’s published account, Manu’s interest in cooking began with the aromas of his grand-mère‘s kitchen, among pots, pans and wood-fire smoke. After studying gastronomy in France, he gained professional experience in several places around the world, including Buenos Aires, where the description mentions the Alvear Palace Hotel and La Bourgogne.

When he arrived in Patagonia, ingredients such as king crab, Patagonian toothfish (merluza negra) and wild trout inspired a lasting attachment to Tierra del Fuego. After two years in Ushuaia, he opened Chez Manu in October 1999, the realisation of his dream of operating his own restaurant.
