The Emerald Lagoon Trek (Laguna Esmeralda) is one of Ushuaia’s best-known nature experiences. The 9 km route crosses subantarctic forest, peat bogs, beaver habitat and the Esmeralda River before reaching the lagoon, which is frozen during the season described here. This easy-difficulty hike is operated by Vendaval Expediciones, a local family-run company specializing in mountain tourism.
Wear hiking boots that cover the ankles, warm mountain clothing, a waterproof jacket, hat and gloves. Bring a medium-sized backpack and enough water for the hike.
Rate: ARS 140,000 per person, valid until September 30.
