This excursion takes us aboard a ferry across the Strait of Magellan to Magdalena Island. Upon arrival, we disembark to explore the island and observe the Magellanic penguins up close, one of the most representative species of Chilean Patagonia. These penguins are characterized by their black plumage on their backs and white on their bellies, an adaptation that helps them camouflage themselves from predators while swimming.
During the visit, you can also admire the Magdalena Lighthouse, recognized as a National Monument. It is essential that those who visit the island maintain a respectful attitude toward the environment and the tranquility of this penguin colony, especially considering that Magdalena Island is a key nesting area for the species.
The entire excursion, including ferry crossing and land time, typically lasts between 4 and 5 hours. On the island, visitors have approximately one hour to hike, observe the penguins, and visit the Magdalena Lighthouse.
No, for reasons of conservation and respect for wildlife. You can enjoy it from a safe distance, appreciating their interaction.
