Excursion to Laguna Esmeralda in winter

Winter has its own magic in Laguna Esmeralda. On this excursion, we propose a classic circuit but with the particular addition of snow on the trees and the Esmeralda Lagoon in its winter and frozen version.

The trekking begins in Ushuaia and upon reaching the beginning of the path, we enter a well-marked path through a landscape of snow-capped mountains and lenga forests. During winter, the weather can be extremely cold, with temperatures falling below 0 degrees Celsius. Hikers should be prepared with clothing and equipment appropriate for the weather, including snow boots, gloves, and a warm jacket.

During the adventure, we crossed the Fuegian forest, large valleys of Peat and numerous beaver dams. The route will take us through immense high valleys with unparalleled views of the Fuegian mountain range. After approximately 2 hours of walking in the snow we will arrive at Laguna Esmeralda at the foot of the Ojo del Albino Glacier.

Despite being a classic excursion, it has its own particular imprint. When you arrive at the Lagoon, a hot meal awaits you in a dome to regain strength before returning.

The experience of walking the trail to Laguna Esmeralda in winter is truly unique and offers stunning views of the natural beauty of the southern tip of Argentina. However, it is important to be physically and mentally prepared for the challenge of hiking in cold, snowy weather, and take all necessary precautions to ensure safety at all times.

• 9.00 We leave your hotel in Ushuaia with our transfer.
• 9:30 Start of the walk.
• 12:00 Arrival at Laguna Esmeralda.

• 15:00 End of the walk.
• 15:30 Return to the Hotel.

What to bring to Laguna Esmeralda in winter?

• Trekking boots (medium top and NOT sneakers).
• Sunglasses and sunscreen.
• Medium backpack.
• Gloves and hat.
• Cold weather coat and a rain jacket.
• Screw-on bottle.
